Men's Diamond Earrings: Studs, Carat Sizes and Prices

Key takeaways

  • A pair of lab-grown diamond stud earrings for men starts at €632 at Laveran (2 × 0.25 carat, 18k gold or platinum), and €1,788 with 1 carat per ear.
  • Our advice for men: 0.50 carat per ear, a diamond about 5 mm across. Noticeable without being flashy.
  • Our earrings are sold as a pair: nothing stops you from wearing just one.

At Laveran, men's diamond earrings start at €632 for a pair of studs, and €960 with 0.50 carat per ear, a diamond about 5 mm across. For a man, a diamond stud is the most understated way to wear an earring: a single stone in a four-prong setting, in 18k white, yellow or rose gold, or in platinum at the same price. This buying guide answers the real questions: what diamond size to choose in carats and millimeters, one ear or two, which metal, which earring back, and how much to budget.

How much do men's diamond earrings cost?

Expect €632 for a pair of 2 × 0.25 carat studs, €960 for 2 × 0.50 carat and €1,788 for 2 × 1 carat, in H/VS2 quality. These are the prices of our Montaigne round diamond studs, checked in October 2026. On the product page, the weight shown is the total weight of the pair: "1.00 carat" means two 0.50 carat diamonds. The table below converts each option into weight per ear.

4 carats2 ct (≈ 8.2 mm)€4,080€4,592€4,976

Prices are the same in 18k white, yellow or rose gold and in 950 platinum: at Laveran, platinum costs the same as gold. The square version (princess cut) follows exactly the same price grid. Studs with a halo of small diamonds, our Odéon earrings, start at €768 per pair (2 × 0.25 carat) and reach €1,968 with 1 carat per ear.

Why these prices? Because these are lab-grown diamonds, also called lab-created or synthetic diamonds: real diamonds, made of pure carbon, with a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same brilliance as a mined diamond, at up to 80% less for the same quality. Every stone is IGI or GIA certified, with no fluorescence.

What size diamond for a man: 0.25, 0.50 or 1 carat?

For a man's earring, 0.50 carat per ear (about 5 mm in diameter) is the best balance: the diamond shows, without looking like evening jewelry. A carat is a unit of weight, not size: what the eye sees is the diameter of the stone from the front. Here are the benchmarks for a round brilliant diamond:

Men's diamond stud size: carats and millimeters (round diamond)
Diamond per earApproximate diameterLook when worn
0.25 carat4.1 mmSubtle, a point of light. Ideal for a first earring or a formal workplace.
0.30 carat4.3 mmSubtle, slightly more present.
0.50 carat5.1 mmThe men's classic: visible up close and from a distance, without excess.
0.75 carat5.8 mmBold, for medium to large earlobes.
1 carat6.5 mmStatement: the diamond stud people notice.
2 carats8.2 mmVery visible, for a confident style.

Three ways to decide:

  • Earlobe size. On a small lobe, a diamond over 6 mm spills over and looks heavy. On a large lobe, 0.25 carat can look lost.
  • Your style. A subtle men's stud (0.25 to 0.50 carat) works with a suit as well as a T-shirt. Above 0.75 carat, the stone becomes the focal point of the outfit.
  • One ear or two. If you wear a single stud, you can go up one size: the eye has nothing to compare it to on the other side.

Shape also changes how size reads: a 0.50 carat princess-cut square diamond measures about 4.3 mm per side and looks more graphic than a round of the same weight.

Torn between 0.25 and 0.50 carat? The easiest way is to compare both on your ear. In our 11 showrooms in France or by video call, an expert shows you the sizes side by side. Certified lab-grown diamond studs from €632 per pair. Book an appointment →

One ear or two: sold as a pair or single?

Our diamond earrings are sold as a pair only; there is no single-earring option, but you can absolutely wear just one. If only one of your ears is pierced, the second stud does not go to waste:

  • it is a spare if you lose the first one, which happens more often with a stud than with a ring;
  • it can be shared: one stud for you, one for your partner, a matching piece for two;
  • it leaves you free to wear two earrings later, if you get the other ear pierced.

The pair price stays the one in the table above: €632 for 2 × 0.25 carat. Two identical studs look more classic and symmetrical; a single stud, more personal.

Left or right? Today, the side is a style choice, not a code. The history and meaning of a man's earring in the left or right ear are covered in our article men's earrings: meanings and symbols. Here, we stick to buying.

Round, square or hoop: which shape for a man?

The round stud is the safest choice for a man; the square princess-cut stud looks more graphic and very masculine. Both are available in the same Montaigne line, at the same price.

  • Round (Montaigne round, from €632): the most brilliant cut, returning the most light. Timeless.
  • Princess square (Montaigne princess, from €632): crisp corners and straight lines, the quintessential men's stud.
  • Halo (Odéon round, from €768): a center diamond surrounded by a fine circle of small diamonds. Brighter, for men who like a luxury earring that shows.

What about hoops? A men's hoop earring is a style in its own right, but our diamond earrings collection is made up of studs. If you are looking for a hoop, an appointment is the best way to see what fits your project.

White gold, yellow gold or platinum?

White gold and platinum are the most understated choices for a man: they fade into the background and leave all the sparkle to the diamond; yellow gold looks warmer and more visible. At Laveran, the choice does not change the price: 18k white, yellow or rose gold or 950 platinum, a 2 × 0.50 carat pair costs €960 in all four metals.

Men's gold or platinum earrings: comparison
MetalLookChoose it if…
18k white goldBright white, understatedYou wear a steel watch or silver-tone jewelry.
950 platinumGrayish white, naturally denseYou want a white metal that stays white, at the same price as gold.
18k yellow goldWarm, more visible around the stoneYou already wear a yellow gold chain or signet ring.
18k rose goldSoft, copperyYou have an olive complexion or want an original touch.

The simplest rule: match the color of the watch or wedding band you already wear.

Which earring back for men's studs?

A diamond stud is held by a post that goes through the earlobe and a back behind it; our earrings come with secure backs. There are two main types:

  • Push back (butterfly): it slides onto the post. The most common, quick to put on and take off.
  • Screw back: it screws onto a threaded post. Slower to fit, it is often preferred for larger diamonds or by men who keep their studs on day and night.

A good habit: check from time to time that the back is snug. If you have any doubt about how your studs are holding, take advantage of free lifetime prong checks and polishing: we make sure the diamond is held securely.

Wearing diamond studs every day

Yes, a diamond stud can be worn every day: diamond is the hardest material there is (10 on the Mohs scale), and 18k gold and platinum hold up very well to daily wear. A Montaigne pair contains on average 1.8 grams of metal: you quickly forget it is there. A few tips:

  • take your studs off for contact sports or around harsh chemicals;
  • clean them now and then in warm soapy water with a soft brush to keep the diamond sparkling;
  • if your ear piercing is recent, wait until it has fully healed before changing jewelry, and follow your piercer's advice. More on this in our guide to ear piercing: types, healing and jewelry tips.

Giving diamond earrings to a man

As a gift, a 2 × 0.25 or 2 × 0.50 carat pair in white gold is the safest choice: €632 to €960, with returns accepted within 30 days. Birthday, Christmas, graduation, Father's Day: a diamond stud is a piece he will wear for a long time, not a passing trend.

Each pair is made to order in 2 to 3 weeks; some models may be available in stock or made in a few days with express production, with the exact timing confirmed at your appointment. For Christmas, order before the end of November. Delivery is free, insured and hand-delivered, and you can pay in installments with Alma.
